Diesel, is going to be our #1 stud dog for the next couple of breedings. He is out of Robinson's Colossal Biggun (160 lbs) and Robinson's Snowball (95 lbs), Diesel is a grandson to Robinson's Bigfoot (145 lbs) and Robinson's Monica of Bravehearts from Mississippi. He was born January 27, 2005 and was brought back to the KY Bluegrass at five (5) weeks old.
There is not enough one could say about an American Bulldog so we are not going to try and repeat that with Diesel, other than he is the most gentle, dog friendly, athletic, energetic, powerful, fast, agile, smart, and best personality we have seen in the breed.
Acitivities
Diesel likes to do anything once (reminds me of when I was a kid). Like we mentioned before we have not done any shows, hunting, or protection training, but that does not stop us from spending quality time together.
I currently work for an Engineering firm here in KY and I perform the much needed Environmental Services to sustain and protect our environment. However, my area of expertise is to perform River Restoration and Design, meaning I get to spend just about everday in the mountains walking up and down creeks and rivers. Being in such rural areas and so far from anywhere I was so excited to take Diesel with me when I felt he was old enough to endure the trips and overnight stays in the Hotels without being stressed. Needless to say if you have seen the pictures he absolutely loves the water and wondering around the woods to find different smells while I work. In the winter time I am unable to take Diesel with me as much as I would like because the water is soooo cold and I don't want him to catch a cold (anymore).
One essential piece of equipment that I bought for work and for leisure is a Yamaha Rhino (side x side 4wheeler). Diesel was used to riding in the bed and backseat of the truck, but he was unsure about his first ride in the bed of the rhino. He was amazingly cured of his fears once he seen that this machine heads toward the creeks and rivers like the truck does. Although he does ride in the bed much of the time, I tend to ensure his exercise by having him run beside me (he usually takes a ride on the way out because the squirrels and mountains tire him out).
Diesel likes to take the occasional trip to the park to see all the other dogs, but you can tell thats not where he would choose to be if he had the choice. I believe it may be that its quite boring just to walk or run around the paths and see everybody make sure that their dogs don't make it near Diesel. Its not because he is growling or barking because he has never started a fight (except my uncle's male for some reason) and he does not get overly excited by anymeans (he is always relaxed), but still people must be intimidated by his size because he gets disappointed to see that all the dogs are not allowed near him, therefore the only time we go to the park is for a quick 2 mile run and to stay halfway clean.
Temperament Test:
I have a friend that I train with at the MMA gym and we got to talking about dogs and so forth and he told me that he does bite work and temperament testing with dogs. I told him that I was interested in temperament testing my dog Diesel just to see how he would react if he or I was provoked in an unfamiliar place (I know he does not like it at our property), but I wanted to test him a little more. To make the story short Diesel is FULL of Defensive Drive. Diesel will only exhibit his angers when his or my territory is being challenged. Once the "person" has retreated from Diesel's comfort zone and taken his eyes off of Diesel his (I would like to chew on your arm attitude) is put to rest immediately.
The rationale for me doing this with my dog is to prove to many people who think you have to train your dog to be protective. For the most part (our experience) you don't have to do this if all you want is an American Bulldog that will always put themselves out in front of danger for your family. These dogs are superior protectors and should be wary of strangers that don't present themselves as harmless or their instincts will act as they have never before. But like I said earlier, our dogs exhibit Defensive Drive, not Prey Drive.
Diesel is currently weighing in @ 120 lbs and 26inches @ the withers.
